The northern border is Oklahoma, while the southern edge is the Gulf of Mexico.”

Upper East Texas is home to the Piney Woods, a temperate coniferous forest. This unique part of Texas offers outdoor recreation like hiking, fishing, canoeing, historic tours, and more while surrounded by spectacular scenery. Popular RV destinations include Caddo Lake State Park in Karnack and Brushy Creek Campground in Jefferson, Texas.

Taking a Texas Road Trip with Your Dog

Dogs are an accepted, if not expected part of the RV lifestyle. If you are not local to Texas, it is important to consider that there are hazards in Texas that might not exist in your area. Venomous snakes, spiders, and scorpions can be deadly. In some areas, like the marshes of South East Texas, you can expect alligators to be in the area.

The Texas heat is brutal, especially during the summer. It is important to watch your pet’s sensitivity to the Texas heat even when you are with them. Know their limits for outdoor activities, use booties when walking on hot surfaces, and always have plenty of cool water on-hand. A cooling mat can also help them be more comfortable.

In a Nutshell

It is essential to never leave a dog or cat in a hot car for any amount of time. Of course, any time you must leave your dog alone in your RV, it is important to have the Waggle RV Pet Temperature Monitor set up. And remember that some dogs simply cannot handle extreme heat like you will find in Texas during the summer. Although dogs fit in so well with the RV lifestyle, your dog may be happier staying with a pet sitter at home if you are planning on a lot of non-dog-friendly excursions.
