Here are 5 easy recipes for ice treats for dogs that you can make right at home.

Dog Ice Treat Recipes

Despite the availability of commercial ice treats for dogs, many puppy parents prefer homemade versions. Much like in ice treats made for human consumption, these commercial food items can have large amounts of soy, refined sugars, and cellulose that aren’t great for you or your pet.
Not only do do-it-yourself ice treat recipes enable you to know exactly what ingredients your dog is consuming, but they are also often a wildly cheaper option.

1. Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream

What do you need?

• Ice cube tray or other containers
• Blender or food processor
• 1 ripe banana
• 16 oz plain yogurt
• ⅓ cup peanut butter

Instructions:

1. Place all ingredients in blender or food processor, and blend until smooth.
2. Pour the mixture into the desired container.
3. Freeze until hardened.
4. Feed your furbaby and enjoy their elation.

Variations: Add 4 tablespoons pumpkin or ⅓ cup (cooked) sweet potato puree for a different flavor. All variations can also add 2 tbsps honey for additional sweetness.

What we love: This recipe is only 3 ingredients that most people already have available in their homes. The recipe is not time-consuming or difficult and most dogs love the peanut butter taste.

2. Strawberry Ice Cream

What do you need?

• Ice cube tray or other containers
• Potato masher
• 1 cup strawberries
• 3 cups plain yogurt

Instructions:

1. Mash strawberries with a potato masher (or a fork, spoon, etc).
2. Mix mashed strawberries together with the yogurt.
3. Freeze overnight

What we love: 2 ingredients and 3 steps? Easy-peasy!

3. Carob Chip Ice Cream

What do you need?

• Ice cube tray or other containers
• 12 oz plain yogurt
• ⅓ cup carob chips
• 1 tbsp honey

Instructions:

1. Mix all ingredients until well combined.
2. Pour into containers.
3. Freeze until hardened.

What we love: This recipe may have some ingredients you don’t already have in your house (am I the only one who had to look up carob?), but your dog will love this chocolate-chip lookalike, and you may come to enjoy it as well!

4. Carrot Ice Cream

What do you need?

• Ice cube tray or another container
• 32 oz plain yogurt
• 2 tbsp honey
• 5 oz pureed carrots

Instructions:

1. Mix together all ingredients.
2. Pour into containers.
3. Freeze until hardened.

Variations: Substitute any dog-safe fruit or vegetable puree, or use a 5 oz jar of baby food.

5. Sweet Potato Ice Cream

What do you need?

• Ice cube tray or other containers
• Food processor
• 1 cup plain yogurt
• ⅓ cup molasses
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• ¼ tsp ginger
• ¼ tsp turmeric
• 2 egg yolks

Instructions:

1. Steam or boil sweet potatoes until soft.
2. Remove peel and puree with a food processor.
3. Add all other ingredients and blend well.
4. Place mixture into ice cube tray and freeze until hard.

What we love: This recipe is a nutritional powerhouse. Sweet potatoes and molasses have potassium, fiber, calcium, iron, and a whole slew of other vitamins. Eggs are one of the perfect foods when it comes to nutritional proportions and cinnamon has proven anti-inflammatory properties.

Safe Toppings For Your Dog Ice Cream

What ice treat is complete without toppings? Even your pup can enjoy an elegant ice treat with these dog-safe topping options.
